RRR gets the WIDEST release ever for an Indian film in Russia; boycott by Hollywood films proves beneficial for Ram Charan-Jr NTR starrer

Bollywood Hungama has now found out that the Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer also got a grand release in the country of Russia. The exact number is not known but it’s surely more than the screen count of any other Bollywood or South film that has been released in this country in the past. As per the Instagram handle @indianfilmsrussia_students, the film is running in around 56 cities at present. Interestingly, Yash Raj Films is the distributor of RRR in Russia.

So how did RRR manage this feat? Firstly, the hype was tremendous even for audiences in Russia. Secondly, ever since Russia invaded Ukraine, a lot of sanctions have come up against the country. Several Hollywood films didn’t release there as a mark of protest. This includes big films like Warner Bros’ The Batman, Disney’s Turning Red and Paramount Pictures's The Lost City. The upcoming Marvel film, Morbius, won't be released in Russia, as confirmed by Sony Pictures. Hence, cinemas in Russia are starved of content.

Meanwhile, India hasn’t voted against Russia and has adopted a policy of neutrality. As a result, Indian films are free to release in the Eurasian country. RRR came at the right time and took advantage.

A few weeks back, even the Prabhas-starrer Radhe Shyam had got a release in Russia.
