EXCLUSIVE: Arshad Warsi asserts, “Unfortunately, very limited amount of people watch sensible cinema in our country”

In an era where theatrical releases and OTT content are thriving together, one is able to see different types of projects being served to the audience. In Bollywood Hungama’s actors round table, Arshad Warsi shared his views on the section of the audience that wishes to see meaningful content.

The actor said, “Somewhere there has become this space where theatres have certain kind of films and OTT has certain kind of. You are gonna hate me to say this but unfortunately, for sensible cinema, there is a very limited amount of people in our country who watch it. You understand? So, there is a very small percentage of our audience who watch sensible, good cinema. Now what happens is that limited audience cannot generate the kind of money a cinema like this requires. You get it? So that’s where the whole dynamic goes whop!”

At the same time, Arshad also understands why certain larger-than-life movies get more viewers and box office collections. “You have Avengers and all these films, why? Why are people watching Mission Impossible and stuff like that? Just like how we watch RRR and the other films. It’s the same dynamics. You want to watch these on screen because they are larger-than-life, and things are flying around the place. Something I cannot fathom or imagine. It’s a treat, experience. And I will go and enjoy that,” he added.

Arshad Warsi will next be seen in the multi-starrer Welcome To The Jungle. Directed by Ahmed Khan, the film also stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Paresh Rawal, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav, among others. He also has a yet-untitled project with his Munna Bhai co-star Sanjay Dutt.
