This is as uncanny as it gets! France has recently sent back a flight with 300 Indian passengers back to India on suspicion of illegal immigration. The flight was on way to Nicaragua and apparently from there a ‘Dunki’ was planned to US-Mexico border. However, once the France authority got an anonymous tip around this plan, they first held back all the passengers and then sent them back to India.
In fact, 25 individuals have also asked for asylum, which is exactly the episode that was narrated in great detail in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki, which has just released. Fact meets fiction meets fact here as the timing couldn’t have been more accurate, hence making one look at the film with renewed interest. In fact, till a week before the film’s release, Shah Rukh Khan was seen painstakingly (and also patiently) explaining to his fans via his #AskSRK sessions on X (earlier Twitter) on what Dunki really meant. Now if only this real-life event would have happened a few weeks back itself, then there would anyways have been a captive audience waiting for the film. As for Rajkumar Hirani, he has shown yet again that he is making films as relevant and topical as they get. While he had been waiting to tell this story for many years, now that it has released there is bound to be added interest in what it’s trying to say because of the France incident. From exposing Godmen in PK to now sharing the real-life incidents around ‘Dunki’, it has been a topical ride indeed. In fact, just before the end credits start rolling in Dunki, there are quite a few statistics and events that are mentioned around some real life dunkis around the world that have shaken up humanity. Now had this France incident taken place a fortnight ago, rest assured even that would have found a mention in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, which is set to continue to be in the headlines with added vigour from this point on.
