The much-awaited Stree 2 was expected to take a flying start. However, it went on to collect a huge Rs. 55.40 crores despite the clash with Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein. And the film refuses to stop and can now go anywhere. Bollywood Hungama spoke to trade experts about the film’s unbelievable fun.
Stree 2’s lifetime predictions Trade veteran Taran Adarsh remarked, “Stree 2 is crazy. Yeh Stree hai, yeh kuch bhibusiness kar sakti hai!”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “Stree 2’s lifetime collections would be more than Rs. 400 crores. There’s no competition for a few weeks.”
Girish Johar, producer and film business analyst, stated, “I think it’ll collect more than Rs. 300 crores and depending on how it holds in the weekdays, Rs. 400 crores is possible. There is no major release in Hindi for nearly 8 weeks. So, I really hope that it continues for a long time.”
Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal opined, “It will have a lifetime of Rs. 400 crores. This film is failing everyone’s calculations. Even on a partial holiday like Raksha Bandhan, it collected more than Rs. 30 crores. That’s an achievement.”
Taran Adarsh added, “A lifetime of Rs. 300 crores is within reach. Rs. 400 crores is also possible. Even a lifetime of more than Rs. 500 crores is not out of the question. The film is just unstoppable. In this open window, only Stree 2 is going to benefit.”
He continued, “Dinesh Vijan is having a great year. Last year, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke was a super-hit. This year, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya did well. Then he had Munjya, which was like a lottery for him. And now Stree 2 has gone to another level. I am sure everyone expected the film to do well but so well? No one expected that. All the calculations have gone for a toss. In mass circuits, the only parallel I can draw with is Jawan. But it had Shah Rukh Khan, Atlee and South-style masala. Here, there’s nothing of that sort. Nevertheless, it’s a complete package. However, I keep reading articles that the film belongs to Shraddha Kapoor or Rajkummar Rao. But I believe that this film belongs to team work.”
Raj Bansal revealed why Stree 2 is doing well across the country, “It is a film for audiences in single screens as well as multiplex, smaller centres as well as urban areas.”
Taran Adarsh, in agreement, added, “It has resonated not just with desi audiences but even urban moviegoers. Its shows are going packed, despite extensive showcasing. Aisa bhi nahin hai ki isme Shah Rukh Khan aur Salman Khan saath mein aa rahe hai!”
He also said, “People know that when it comes to Rajkummar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, toh thokam-thaak waala kaam nahin hoga. These are names that spell class and quality.”
Next films of the universe to score big time The success of Stree 2 has made it clear that the next films of the Horror Comedy Cinematic Universe would open with a bang. Taran Adarsh said, “It’s going to be huge now. Bhediya 2 will be taken very seriously. It’ll now open with a bang. The first part was affected by the Drishyam 2 wave. However, it was too late then (to push its release). And it was not a bad film. As for Stree 3, it will be complete madness. Tab toh koi clash bhi nahin karega!”
Atul Mohan, in agreement, stated, “Bhediya didn’t collect as much as the expectations. But to collect Rs. 70 crores was not bad. People have liked it. Hence, it collected so much; otherwise, we have seen films run ending at Rs. 20-25 crores. Bhediya 2 now will benefit.”
Raj Bansal exulted, “Bhediya’s first part didn’t work and hence, one can’t say for sure about the sequel.” He, however, agreed that Stree 3 would be highly awaited.
