Actress and model Gauahar Khan has condemned a recent incident where a farmer was denied entry to a Bengaluru mall due to his traditional attire. Khan took to Instagram to express her outrage, calling the situation "shameful" and advocating for cultural pride.
Incident details The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when a 70-year-old farmer, Fakeerappa, was turned away from GT Mall on Magadi Main Road in Bengaluru. The farmer, dressed in a traditional dhoti and white shirt, was simply trying to watch a movie with his son. Despite his humble intent, mall security denied him entry based on his attire.
Public outrage and Gauahar Khan's reaction A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. Among the voices of dissent was Gauahar Khan, who shared the video on her Instagram story. She wrote, "This is absolutely shameful. Strict action must be taken against the mall. This is India and we all must be proud of our culture."
Broader reactions The incident has also sparked criticism from local farmer unions and politicians. Farmer unions threatened protests and demanded a formal apology from the mall management. Following their warning, a group of farmers, along with a pro-Kannada organization, staged a protest in front of the mall.
Protest and demands One protester, speaking to news agency ANI, explained their cause: "A farmer had arrived here, wearing a dhoti, but the security guard didn't let him inside. So, we are protesting here." The protestors are calling for accountability and respect for traditional attire, emphasizing the importance of cultural acceptance in modern India.
