In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, actress Nyrraa Banerji, known for her role in Checkmate, reveals insights into her latest project, personal life, and future aspirations. The actress, who also spoke about her experiences on Bigg Boss and her evolving career, answered some fun rapid-fire questions that showcased a more personal side of her.
Her Role in Checkmate and Character Insights When asked about her character, Neelam, from Checkmate, Nyrraa shared how her character’s ability to switch between personas intrigued her. "She switches, and like how... what you were watching is completely twisted. In life, when you understand certain things, it becomes important to switch and let go of emotional baggage. We tend to procrastinate a lot in life, which we should not," she explained. On Life and Career: ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ Reflecting on her life’s journey, Nyrraa was asked to describe her life as a film title, to which she replied, "Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. This heart can make you do anything." Her journey from a law graduate to an actor has been unconventional, and she admits that she never took acting seriously at first. "I started my acting career on a very light note. I never took it seriously, as no one in my family was from the same background. Little did I realize that people find my looks different, which led me to take acting seriously later on," she shared. Future Goals: Europe and USA Trip Looking ahead, Nyrraa has set her sights on some personal goals for 2025. "I want to go on a Europe trip; I’ve never been there, and I also want to relive my memories from the USA," she revealed. The Chessboard of Life: ‘Queen’ is the Game Piece When asked which chess piece she would be if she were a player in the game, Nyrraa didn’t hesitate to choose the queen. "Queen, obviously, so I can kick out anyone whenever I want," she said with a laugh, showing her bold and confident personality. Guilty Pleasures and Habits Nyrraa also opened up about her guilty pleasures when not working, confessing her love for indulgent treats. "Eating lots of fudge chocolate cake, pastries, and pizza. These are everyday things for me. I only work out when I’m working and start my dieting four days before," she said.
On a more reflective note, Nyrraa discussed a habit she’s recently adopted that she’s proud of—journaling. "I used to have this habit of journaling a couple of years ago. I realized when you stop journaling and get attached to worldly things, it disturbs the sink of your mind and body," she explained. "I have bad memory, and there have been times when I didn’t recognize people by their faces," she added. Thoughts on Bigg Boss and the Game Nyrraa, a former Colors face, was asked her thoughts on the current Bigg Boss contestants and their chances of winning. "I am a Colors face too," she pointed out, adding that she wasn’t particularly rooting for anyone. However, she did give credit to Avinash, saying, "I think he knows the game pretty well. He is the only one who has created a stir in the house and made things happen." No Regrets in Her Journey Despite having regrets over a few projects, Nyrraa expressed no remorse about her career path. "I never regret starting my career this way. I always took part in cultural activities and was picked up for projects. I never took acting seriously at first, but when I realized how much looks mattered, I took it seriously," she explained.
The Truth Behind Bigg Boss's Scripted Nature Nyrraa also touched on the ongoing debate about whether Bigg Boss is scripted. "It definitely stretches some people’s journey. It’s brutal when it comes to not letting people take time. I would have been a very different player; I wouldn't have been someone crassly aggressive but in a different way. I would have done things intelligently. People would have found it difficult to decode me," she shared, adding that Bigg Boss doesn't give contestants enough time to evolve naturally.
