Actors Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are not just creating a legacy with their performances but also by backing innovative stories. The duo’s maiden production under their banner, Pushing Buttons Studios, Girls Will Be Girls, has been making waves in the festival circuit and recently premiered digitally on Amazon Prime Video. Directed by debutant filmmaker Shuchi Talati, the film features newcomers Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron in lead roles, alongside acclaimed actor Kani Kusruti.
"We Had to Break Our FDs to Produce the Film"
Speaking at Screen LIVE, Ali Fazal revealed the lengths they went to in order to fund the film. “We are all from a country that is famous for its jugaad… its ability to figure out a way to get things done. Honestly, we asked for money from here and there, and even broke our FDs to fund Girls Will Be Girls. But we managed. Now, it is getting a nice release, and many sections of audience are watching it. It is possible,” shared the actor.
Richa Chadha on Collaboration and International Support
Richa Chadha emphasized the role of international collaboration in bringing the film to life. “For instance, this film was edited in France. It received a grant because of the core idea of the film,” she explained.
Building a Platform for New Talent
Ali Fazal spoke about their vision for Pushing Buttons Studios. “Our place is open for collaborations, and we would love to listen to a lot of ideas. We hope we can produce more films like these, and make it reach a wider audience,” he said.
Girls Will Be Girls is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
