Bollywood actress Sara Ali Khan has often expressed her spiritual inclination, and one place that holds immense significance in her journey is Kedarnath. Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025, Sara reflected on how her first visit to the sacred town was a turning point in her life, both personally and professionally.
“I feel a sense of home and discovery there,” Sara shared. “When I first went to Kedarnath, I wasn’t an actor. I studied in New York and hadn’t been out and about in our country. It was one of the first times I saw those mountains and valleys, felt that energy in the temple and the valley in general.”
Her deep connection with Kedarnath is further amplified by the fact that her Bollywood debut film was also named after the holy site. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Kedarnath (2018) was a romantic drama set against the backdrop of the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand floods. Sara starred alongside the late Sushant Singh Rajput, who played a local Muslim porter named Mansoor. She portrayed Mandakini “Mukku” Mishra, a strong-willed Hindu girl from a wealthy family. The film explored themes of love, faith, and resilience, resonating with audiences and earning Sara widespread recognition.
Looking back, Sara acknowledges how Kedarnath shaped her journey beyond just her film career. “I can’t imagine that there were two whole decades of Sara without Kedarnath. I can’t imagine that today. It is a very humbling feeling to go to Kedarnath. I discovered myself as an actor, an adult, a working girl, and as someone who is spiritually inclined.”
Kedarnath marked a significant milestone in Sara’s career, and the spiritual town continues to be a source of inspiration and self-discovery for her. Her visits to the pilgrimage site reaffirm her belief in its energy, making it a place that remains close to her heart.
