Can November 28 be declared as the day of ‘Ishq’? This year, on the last Friday of November, two love stories are going to hit cinemas, though both are as different as chalk and cheese. But interestingly, they both have the word ‘Ishq’ or ‘Ishk’ in their titles. And that’s just one part of the coincidence. A 1997 film with the same four words was also released in cinemas on the same day, that is, November 28!
Tere Ishk Mein stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon in leading roles. It marks the return of Dhanush and producer-director Aanand L Rai after Raanjhanaa (2013). In fact, Tere Ishk Mein is said to be the spiritual sequel to the 2013 Sonam Kapoor co-starrer. 2025 is the year of intense romantic films and hence, a lot is expected from Tere Ishk Mein as it's just the apt film of the season for the audience.
Gustaakh Ishq was earlier titled Ul Jalool Ishq. It is directed by Vibhu Puri, who earlier directed Hawaizaada (2015). It features Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Sharib Hashmi. The lyrics are penned by Gulzar, while its soulful songs are composed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Gustaakh Ishq marks Manish Malhotra’s first theatrical release as a producer.
Yesterday, Bollywood Hungama reported that both Tere Ishk Mein and Gustaakh Ishq will have its gala premieres at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025, Goa. Attendees of IFFI will get the chance to see Gustaakh Ishq before anyone else, on November 24, that is, 4 days before its release in cinemas. As for Tere Ishk Mein, it’ll have a premiere on the day of its release, November 28, at the film festival.
Third Ishq release of November 28
What is quite astounding is that Ishq, the 1997 romantic comedy drama, also released on November 28! It starred Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla and Kajol and was directed by Indra Kumar. The film is memorable for its casting, hit songs, funny scenes and drama. It was the third biggest hit of 1997 after Border and Dil To Pagal Hai, as it earned Rs. 24.93 crores. In today’s times, it amounts to nearly Rs. 200 crores.
It now remains to be seen if Tere Ishk Mein and Gustaakh Ishq also follow in the footsteps of Ishq and become roaring successes at the box office.
