EXCLUSIVE: Ayushmann Khurrana reveals he was thrilled as he finally fulfilled his ‘dream’ of a festival release with Thamma; says, “This was only one thing left on my bucket list”

For most Bollywood stars, a festival release — especially during Diwali — is considered the ultimate sign of stardom. It’s the time when families flock to theatres, the box office sizzles, and celebrations merge with cinema. For Ayushmann Khurrana, who has spent over a decade redefining the landscape of mainstream Hindi films, this milestone had remained just out of reach — until now.

Known for his ability to balance commercial success with unconventional storytelling, Ayushmann has starred in several acclaimed hits like Andhadhun, Bala, Dream Girl, and Badhaai Ho. Yet, one wish had always lingered on his bucket list — a major festival release. Speaking about the long wait finally coming to an end, Ayushmann told Bollywood Hungama, “More than 10 years in the industry and I have done every type of film. There was only one thing left on my bucket list, that I have never had a festival release. So it happened this time. It was my own film. So it was beautiful.”

For Ayushmann, the emotional connection with Diwali runs deep. He recalled how watching a film during the festival has always been a family tradition. “So especially on Diwali, and Diwali in our house has always been a tradition, that always on Diwali we go to watch a picture. The next day or after puja, anything. So, it happened this time. It was my own film, so it was beautiful,” he added.

Acknowledging the high expectations that come with such a coveted release window, Ayushmann remained calm and focused on the joy of the occasion. “Look, I never take stress. I was just excited about the fact that my film should release on Diwali,” he said, emphasizing the sense of gratitude that came with the moment.

Reflecting on his consistent success streak, he remarked, “So Dream Girl, Dream Girl 2, Badhaai Do, Bala, and now this Rs. 100 crore. This is a very big deal in an actor’s career. Especially in the times we live in. What works, what doesn’t — no one knows.”

As he looked back on his journey, Ayushmann summed up what this milestone meant to him: “This does give you like some boost that yeah, something I am doing right. I am choosing right, I am acting right. I can only go with my gut and intuition. What happens ahead I think depends on the audience.”

For Ayushmann Khurrana, this Diwali wasn’t just about a box office win — it was about fulfilling a decade-old dream and reaffirming his belief that perseverance, intuition, and authenticity always pay off.
