Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2026 continues to build on its identity as ‘Hindustan Ka Sangeetsthan’. Four weeks after its return, the music reality show has drawn attention for its competitive performances, elaborate stage setup and singers representing different parts of the country. The upcoming episode will celebrate Kumar Sanu’s 69th birthday with a musical tribute to his songs, taking viewers back to the popular melodies of the 1990s.
The episode begins with ‘Ae Kaash Ke Hum’, setting the tone for an evening of nostalgia. Contestant Durgesh Yadav performs ‘Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai’, after which Kumar Sanu joins him on stage. Mir Zulfikar follows with ‘Der Na Ho Jaaye’, while Kadamb Chauhan performs ‘Tu Mile Dil Khile’. His rendition earns appreciation from Kumar Sanu, who rewards him with cash. Gitashree Chowdhury then takes the stage with ‘Gawah Hai Chand Taare’, a song originally sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik.
The performance also brings back memories of Kumar Sanu’s musical association with Alka Yagnik. Having recorded more than 500 duets together, the two singers have contributed to a catalogue of songs that continues to find listeners across generations. Gitashree’s rendition prompts Kumar Sanu to recall his time working with Alka Yagnik and the place she holds in his musical journey. He becomes emotional while remembering their association, appreciates the contestant’s performance and sings a few lines of the song as a tribute to his longtime singing partner.
With Alka Yagnik currently recovering from a rare sensorineural hearing loss condition, the moment carries added emotional significance. Speaking about her health and their musical journey, Kumar Sanu shared, “ As many of you know, Alka ji is not keeping well, and that makes me very emotional. Some of the most romantic songs of my career have been with Alka ji, and her brilliance as a singer needs no introduction. I sincerely hope she recovers soon and returns to join us in front of all of you once again. Listening to this song brought back so many memories of our time together, especially the way we recorded it and the beautiful musical moments we shared. It truly saddens me to know that she is unwell. Through this performance, I would like to pay tribute to her by singing a few lines of this song, with the hope that she gets well soon and we get to hear her magical voice again.”
Beyond the birthday celebration, the current season has introduced a larger stage format featuring a 360-degree setup, more than 100 musicians and an extensive chorus ensemble. These elements contribute to the scale of the performances. Host Shreyas Talpade brings his spontaneous style and energetic presence to the show, connecting the musical performances with the entertainment segments.
The upcoming episode combines Kumar Sanu’s birthday celebrations with a tribute to the music of the 1990s, revisiting familiar songs and memories from his career while also acknowledging his long association with Alka Yagnik.
