Citadel – Honey, Bunny Trailer Launch: Varun Dhawan describes Citadel from the 90s; says, “We didn’t have all the crazy gadgets that are available today”

Unlike the American Citadel version, the upcoming Indian spin off of the spy thriller is set in a completely different time period as it sets the stage for the Priyanka Chopra starrer. Meanwhile, actor Varun Dhawan is debuting in a long-format series with this Prime Video series and will be paired alongside Pan-India star Samantha Ruth Prabhu for the first time. The show, as many would already be aware, is set in the 90s and hence this spy thriller definitely takes you back in time and at the trailer launch, it made Junior Dhawan quite nostalgic.

Speaking about the challenges they faced while shooting for a high-octane spy thriller set in the 90s, Varun Dhawan referred to how different the technology was during those days. "Our series start way before the first Citadel begins. We are set in the 90s. This is almost the way everything began and will determine how the future instalments will play out. We are starting afresh and did not have any references to look up to because we are in the 90s. So, we don't even have all the crazy gadgets that are available today. And, we had to rely a lot on the things that were built in the 90s.

Nevertheless, the actor confessed that he thoroughly enjoyed because he shot in one of his favorite time periods. “90s also happens to be my favourite period of filmmaking and life. So, it was really, really fun.” Furthermore, he also revealed how he would often suggest ideas to filmmakers Raj and DK about using references of the 90s. “In the show, there is a big Hindi film backdrop that we have. As I said, I love the 90s and my father made so many films then. So, I used to always come up with suggestions to Raj-DK about using a certain song like a song from Subhash Ghai's film, etc. We would always keep debating on it,” he shared.
